Illinois concludes season with loss to Texas in NCAA tournament

Illinois' notable 2024-25 basketball season concluded with a defeat against Texas in the NCAA Tournament's second round. The Fighting Illini lost to the top-seeded and fifth-ranked Longhorns, 65-48, at Moody Center.

The team had previously achieved their first NCAA Tournament victory since 2000, finishing the season with 22 wins, matching the third-highest in their history.

Adalia McKenzie led Illinois with 13 points in her final game. She also contributed three rebounds and three assists. Berry Wallace added 12 points and three rebounds, marking her second consecutive double-digit scoring game. Kendall Bostic ended her collegiate career with eight points and eight rebounds in her 125th start for Illinois. Genesis Bryant scored eight points, including two three-pointers, along with five rebounds and three steals.

Kendall Bostic finished atop Illinois' career rebounding list with 1,352 rebounds and third on the Big Ten all-time list. Genesis Bryant ended third on Illinois' career makes list for three-pointers with 207.

Despite forcing Texas into ten turnovers and holding them scoreless from beyond the arc, Illinois could not overcome their opponents. The Illini forced double-digit turnovers in most of their games this season.

Shauna Green's record as head coach now stands at 63-35 at Illinois and overall at 219-110. Under Green's leadership, Illinois has made significant strides but remains winless against Texas after four meetings.

Illinois concluded its NCAA Tournament run with a record of 9-10 all-time and finished this season ranked third for most victories in a single season within program history.
