In a significant achievement, the Illinois women's basketball team secured their first NCAA Tournament win since 2000 by defeating No. 23 Creighton with a score of 66-57 at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. The victory marked Illinois' fourth triumph over a ranked opponent this season.

Genesis Bryant was instrumental in the win, scoring 17 points and contributing four assists and a rebound. Her performance included two crucial three-pointers and six late free throws that helped secure the Illini's lead. Kendall Bostic also played a key role, setting a program record with her 54th career double-double, accumulating 12 points and an impressive 17 rebounds.

Adalia McKenzie added to the team's success with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Berry Wallace made her NCAA Tournament debut memorable by scoring 11 points and securing five rebounds.

Brynn Shoup-Hill contributed nine points and was pivotal in maintaining momentum for Illinois with two three-pointers during the third quarter.

The game saw Illinois taking an early lead after Bryant's three-pointer, though Creighton briefly surged ahead with a 6-0 run. However, Illinois responded with a strong offensive stretch to regain control of the game.

By halftime, Illinois held a five-point lead at 31-26 after shooting efficiently from the field. Despite Creighton's efforts to close the gap in the second half, Illinois maintained their advantage through strategic plays and effective defense.

With this victory, Illinois advances to face either No. 5 Texas or William & Mary in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday.
