Illinois track teams achieve multiple wins at USF Alumni Invitational

The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams concluded their first outdoor meet of the season at the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, March 22.

Will Merrick and Halle Hill both emerged victorious in their respective 1500m races. Merrick finished with a time of 3:44.30, while Hill clocked in at 4:20.09. Azariyah Bryant also secured a win in the 100m event with a time of 11.32 seconds. In addition to these victories, Nicolas Dovalovsky and Kennady Anderson earned second place finishes in the 1500m races.

Looking ahead, the Illinois track and field teams are set to compete again at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Florida, scheduled for April 4-5.

In other results from the meet, Sam Poglitsch placed fifth in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:25.02. Trey Sato secured sixth place in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:47.67. Reece Ihenacho achieved an eighth-place finish in discus throw with a distance of 52.40 meters (171-11). The men's 4x400m relay team finished twelfth with a time of 3:13.13. Dewayne Johnson and Llyric Driscoll placed sixteenth and seventeenth respectively in their events.
