The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams began their outdoor season at the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa, Florida. On the first day of competition, Jordan Koskondy achieved a notable performance by winning the gold medal in the hammer throw with a distance of 62.82 meters (206-1), marking the second-best throw in the program's history.

In other events, Mia Morello secured a silver medal in the women's pole vault with a jump of 4.20 meters (13-9 1/4). Will Rezny earned a bronze medal in the shot put, achieving a distance of 17.85 meters (58-6 3/4). Faith Deering finished fifth in the hammer throw with a personal best that ranks as the sixth-best throw for the school at 57.48 meters (188-7).

The Illinois team will continue their participation on March 22 for the final day of competition at the USF Alumni Invitational.
