Four former members of the Illini men's golf team will participate in this week's Valspar Championship as part of the PGA Tour. Brian Campbell, Thomas Detry, Nick Hardy, and Adrien Dumont de Chassart will represent head coach Mike Small's program, having played under him between 2011-12 and 2022-23.
Week 12 of the PGA Tour will see these golfers compete at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Florida. Campbell, Detry, and Hardy were already set to participate when Dumont de Chassart joined them as a Monday qualifier.
The open qualifiers for the Valspar Championship included Philip Knowles with a score of 66, Andre Chi with 67, Kevin Tway with 68, and Adrien Dumont de Chassart also scoring 68.
Thomas Detry is leading his group coming into the event. He is currently ninth in the FedEx Cup standings and ranked No. 26 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). Last season he finished T17 at the Valspar Championship.
Brian Campbell stands at 26th in the FedEx Cup standings and ranks 103rd in OWGR. This week marks his debut at the Valspar Championship.
Nick Hardy recently made a cut and finished T64 at the Puerto Rico Open. This tournament will be his third consecutive start at the Valspar Championship.
Adrien Dumont de Chassart competed alongside Hardy at the Puerto Rico Open where he finished T26. He will be making his second consecutive start at this event.
