Ryan Voois leads Pauma Valley Invitational; Illini golf team in fifth place

Ryan Voois is currently leading the Pauma Valley Invitational, while the University of Illinois men's golf team stands in fifth place. The tournament was interrupted due to darkness on Monday evening during the second round.

The Fighting Illini, ranked 13th, teed off alongside Loyola Marymount, Arizona State (ranked second), and San Diego (ranked 33rd). These teams managed to complete 36 holes before play was suspended.

Voois recorded consecutive rounds under par on Monday. He scored a 2-under 69 in the first round and matched his season-best with a 4-under 67 in the second round. A native of Ladera Ranch, California, Voois moved up ten spots on the individual leaderboard and now holds a one-stroke lead over Texas Tech's Calum Scott, who is at 5-under with four holes remaining in his second round.

In addition to Voois' performance, senior Jackson Buchanan from Illinois posted a score of 140 (-2) over two rounds and is tied for 11th place. Freshman Trey Marrion (+2) and sophomore Max Herendeen (+3) are tied for 39th and 44th places respectively. Sophomore Ethan Wilson is at +7 and tied for 65th with one round left to play.

Freshman Jake Birdwell, playing as an individual competitor, is at +2 with five holes left in his second round.

The tournament will resume Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. CT/7:30 a.m. PT to complete Round 2. Afterward, players will be re-paired for the final round starting around noon CT/10 a.m. PT.
