Illinois Director of Athletics Josh Whitman has announced a contract extension for Brad Dancer, the head coach of the Fighting Illini men's tennis team. The extension, which is pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees at its March 20 meeting, will keep Dancer in his role through the 2030-31 season.

Whitman praised Dancer's leadership and dedication to both athletic and personal development: "Brad Dancer is a trusted, veteran leader in our athletics department and one of the most accomplished coaches throughout all of collegiate tennis, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership through the next six years as he continues to lead a championship caliber men's tennis program," he said. Whitman emphasized Dancer's commitment to pushing his team to new heights: "Despite decades of success, he is never complacent, exhausting every avenue each day."

Dancer expressed gratitude for the opportunity: "This is an incredibly exciting opportunity, both personally and professionally. My wife, Haylie, and our four boys all have so many close relationships here and love being part of the Champaign-Urbana community." He also highlighted his commitment to excellence within Fighting Illini Athletics: "It is an exhilarating time at the University of Illinois. From the campus to Josh Whitman, there is a vision of excellence for Fighting Illini Athletics."

In his 20th season as head coach at Illinois, Dancer has led the team to numerous successes including 17 NCAA Tournament berths and three Big Ten Tournament titles. Under his guidance since June 28, 2005, Dancer has become Illinois' all-time winningest men's tennis coach.

Reflecting on his tenure and future goals, Dancer stated: "As we move forward, this extension offers me the chance to continue that mission: to seek and pull out greatness from our student-athletes. I am proud of the work we have already done during my time at Illinois."

Dancer's achievements include coaching Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe to an NCAA doubles title in 2006 and reaching No. 2 in national rankings with Illinois holding that position for much of that season.

Currently during the 2024-25 campaign, Dancer has helped players like Kenta Miyoshi achieve high individual rankings while guiding the team into national prominence once again.
