Fighting Illini golf team enters final round in seventh place

The Fighting Illini men's golf team is positioned in seventh place after two rounds at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas. The team improved its performance on the second day, shooting an 8-over 296, which brought their total to 598 (+22) over 36 holes.

Junior Ryan Voois led Illinois in the second round with six birdies, finishing with a 2-under 70. This performance moved him up 32 spots on the individual leaderboard, tying for 27th place with a score of 149 (+5). Voois is just one stroke behind sophomore Max Herendeen, who leads the team in a tie for 16th place. Herendeen followed his initial round of 75 (+3) with a score of 73 (+1), placing him at four-over-par and two strokes away from the top ten.

Senior Jackson Buchanan and sophomore Ethan Wilson also contributed to Illinois' score. Buchanan recorded another round of 76 (+4), tying for 40th place at 152 (+8). Wilson improved slightly from his first round, scoring a 77 and tying for 61st with a total of 155 (+11).

Freshman Trey Marrion stands tied for 38th after two rounds with a score of 151 (+7). Competing individually, classmate Jake Birdwell is tied with Buchanan at the same score.

The tournament sees No.2 Auburn leading at two-under-par, followed by UNLV at one-over and No.24 Pepperdine at eleven-over in third place. New Mexico holds fourth position while Virginia and Oklahoma are tied for fifth, just ahead of Illinois.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday, beginning at Holes 1 and 10 from 11 a.m. CT/9 a.m. PT. Live scoring will be available through Clippd Scoreboard.
