The Illinois men's gymnastics team is set to return to Huff Hall for a competition against Army and Greenville on March 1 at 1 p.m. This event, designated as Pride Night, will be followed by the annual Ninja Warrior competition hosted by Illinois.
Army enters the meet with a record of 1-2, having secured a victory against William & Mary in their latest competition. Senior Jojo Buselmeier led Army with first-place finishes on floor, still rings, and parallel bars. Meanwhile, Greenville approaches the event after achieving a season-high score against Nebraska but ultimately falling short. Freshman Ricky Mays and sophomore Jaxon Clapper have been standout performers for Greenville.
In recent performances, four Illini gymnasts qualified for the 2025 Winter Cup. Despite injuries affecting some members, Brandon Dang won the USA Winter Cup title on pommel horse and was named to the USA Gymnastics Senior National Team. Dang has also been recognized as Big Ten Specialist of the Week multiple times this season.
Ian Sandoval has been acknowledged as CGA Rookie of the Week three times this season and currently ranks No. 1 nationally in all-around. Both Sandoval and Dang received Big Ten weekly honors for their performances against Michigan.
Preston Ngai and Garrett Schooley were included in this year's Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list due to their contributions last season. Tate Costa, the reigning NCAA high bar champion, continues his career with aspirations for international competitions and further NCAA titles.
Illinois head coach Daniel Ribeiro holds a career record of 39-22 in his third season leading the team.
