Oklahoma State defeats Illinois in ITA Team Indoor Championships

Saturday's ITA Team Indoor Championships featured a match between the Fighting Illini and the defending national champions, Oklahoma State, at the Atkins Tennis Center. Oklahoma State, ranked third nationally and seeded fourth in the tournament, secured a 4-0 victory over Illinois.

With this result, Illinois' record stands at 2-4 for the season and 2-3 at home. The team is currently navigating a challenging schedule that includes nine consecutive matches against Power 4 opponents.

Oklahoma State improved their season record to 6-2 following Saturday's win.

In doubles play, McKenna Schaefbauer and Kasia Treiber earned a victory for Illinois with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. However, Oklahoma State clinched the doubles point by winning both the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches with identical scores of 6-3.

The Cowgirls extended their lead in singles competition with wins at No. 4 (6-4, 6-2), No. 2 (6-3, 6-2), and No. 6 (7-5, 6-3) singles positions. Matches on the odd-numbered courts remained unfinished.

The final score was Oklahoma State defeating Illinois with a decisive margin of four to zero.

Illinois will continue to host the ITA National Indoor Team Championships through February 9th, while Northwestern will co-host from February 7th to February 11th. The Fighting Illini are scheduled to face UCLA next on Sunday evening.
