Illinois faced a challenging road match against Duke, resulting in a 4-1 defeat at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, North Carolina. The Illini's record moved to 1-2 this season, with both losses occurring on the road against top-15 teams. Meanwhile, Duke remained undefeated and improved its record to 5-0.

In doubles play, William Mroz and Jeremy Zhang managed to secure a win at No. 3 doubles for Illinois. However, Duke clinched the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 positions, gaining an early advantage of 1-0.

Transitioning into singles matches, Tyler Bowers delivered for Illinois by winning his match in straight sets at No. 4 singles against Duke's Sam Landau. This victory marked Bowers' first ranked singles win of the season after taking the first set decisively and following up with another strong performance in the second.

Despite Bowers' efforts, Duke claimed wins in three subsequent matches at No. 5, No. 2, and No. 3 positions to seal their home victory over Illinois.

Following this match, Illinois will continue their time in North Carolina by facing off against North Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
