Illinois falls to Nebraska in overtime battle

No. 18 Illinois faced a challenging overtime loss against Nebraska, with the final score reading 80-74 at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday night.

Kasparas Jakucionis stood out for Illinois, achieving his second consecutive double-double by scoring 18 points and collecting a career-high of 13 rebounds. He also contributed three 3-pointers, four assists, and one steal.

Will Riley made significant contributions in the second half, scoring 13 of his total 16 points during that period. His performance included four successful 3-point shots and four rebounds, along with a steal.

Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn was pivotal in pushing the game into overtime with a crucial 3-pointer. He finished with 15 points and two successful attempts from beyond the arc, along with four rebounds.

Tre White's performance was marked by his third double-digit rebounding game of the season, as he grabbed 13 boards alongside eight points and two blocks.

Morez Johnson Jr. added five points to the team's tally while securing five rebounds, three blocks, and a steal. Kylan Boswell ended the night with eight points, four rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

Illinois will next play Ohio State at the sold-out State Farm Center on Sunday at noon CT. The match will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

The defeat against Nebraska ends Illinois' nine-game winning streak over them and marks their second overtime loss this season in Big Ten road games. Despite outrebounding Nebraska 58-42 and tying their season-high with 42 three-point attempts against them, Illinois fell short due to committing 17 turnovers during the game.
