Illinois faced a challenging match against No. 14 Tennessee during the ITA Kickoff Weekend, ultimately falling 4-2 at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Illini began strongly by securing the doubles point and taking an early lead with a win in the first singles match. Tyler Bowers and Zach Viiala achieved a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles after breaking serve in the first game. At No. 3 doubles, William Mroz and Jeremy Zhang broke serve in the tenth game to clinch their match, earning Illinois the doubles point.

In singles play, Mathis Debru extended Illinois' lead with a straight-set victory at No. 6, winning 6-4, 6-0. However, Tennessee responded with four consecutive singles wins to secure their overall victory. Notably, four of the six singles matches required a decisive third set.

Illinois is set to compete against Auburn on Sunday morning for its final match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The event will continue at Goodfriend Tennis Center starting at 9 a.m. CT.
