Illinois players achieve key victories at Fighting Illini Invite

The Fighting Illini Invite continued in Urbana, Illinois, with the University of Illinois securing several victories on the second day of competition. The event featured teams from Illinois, Columbia, and Boise State in a hidden dual-style format.

In doubles play, William Mroz and Jeremy Zhang from Illinois achieved their third win of the weekend by defeating Boise State's Dylan Jaen and Taiyo Kurata with a score of 6-4.

In singles matches, Zach Viiala earned his first collegiate singles win at Atkins Tennis Center by overcoming Boise State's Julius Seifert in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Max Mroz followed suit with his first collegiate singles victory against Dylan Jaen from Boise State. Mroz won after a challenging first-set tiebreaker and went on to break Jaen's serve twice in the second set for a final score of 7-6(6), 6-1.

William Mroz also contributed to Illinois' success by defeating Carson Baker from Boise State. After splitting the first two sets, Mroz secured the match by breaking Baker's serve twice in the deciding set for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday with doubles matches starting at 9 a.m. CT, followed by another round of singles matches.
