Illinois loses to Northwestern in overtime during Big Ten opener

No. 19 Illinois faced a tough loss in their Big Ten opener against Northwestern, falling 70-66 in overtime at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Despite the setback, several players delivered noteworthy performances.

Kasparas Jakucionis led Illinois with a double-double, contributing 20 points and 10 rebounds while making six out of ten attempts from beyond the arc. Most of his scoring came during the second half and overtime. He also provided seven assists, one block, and one steal.

Tomislav Ivisic also recorded a double-double, his third consecutive and fifth of the season, with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Additionally, he achieved a career-high five assists alongside one block.

Will Riley added to the team's efforts by scoring 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists after leading the team with 11 points in the first half.

The Illini managed to assist on 19 of their total 25 made field goals during the game.

Looking ahead, No. 19 Illinois (6-2, 0-1 Big Ten) will return to Champaign for their Big Ten home opener against No. 11 Wisconsin on Tuesday at State Farm Center. The match is scheduled for an evening tipoff at 8 p.m. CT on Peacock.
