Four members of Illinois 4-H participated in the 23rd Annual International Route 66 Film Festival, held in Springfield on November 1-2. Their short films were selected from submissions spanning 21 countries, showcasing the talents and creativity of these young filmmakers. The festival's live screenings featured only a limited number of submissions, marking a significant achievement for the participating 4-H members.

Colin Weber from Hancock County presented a documentary titled "Illinois State Capitol & Illinois State Archives," which explores Illinois history. Alyssa Thompson from McLean County shared "The Addiction," a film addressing personal challenges and growth. Gracelyn Abell from Whiteside County premiered "Meraki: A Week in the Life," initially created as a high school English project and later developed into a 4-H entry. Larson Huss from DeKalb County debuted his animated stop-motion film, "Mr. Cool and the ATM," crafted through a 4-H video-making project.

Larson Huss received recognition as Best Junior Filmmaker at the event.

The Route 66 Film Festival is an annual two-day event celebrating independent films that entertain, provoke thought, evoke laughter or tears, and offer fresh perspectives on global issues. Illinois 4-H expressed pride in having its members share their work with an international audience.

This opportunity was facilitated by support from the Central Illinois Film Commission.

Illinois 4-H is part of University of Illinois Extension's youth development program under the College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. It aims to develop true leaders who are prepared for future careers through hands-on learning experiences that encourage active participation and community contribution.
