Sophomore guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn led the Illinois men's basketball team to a commanding victory over Eastern Illinois in their season opener on November 4. Gibbs-Lawhorn achieved a career-high 21 points and made four 3-pointers, also a personal best. His performance included scoring the final ten points of the first half for the Fighting Illini, matching his previous best before surpassing it after halftime.
Gibbs-Lawhorn, who is majoring in recreation, sport, and tourism, also had an impressive free-throw record, going 7-for-8. The game concluded with Illinois securing a 112-67 win over Eastern Illinois.
