The Illinois men's tennis team is set to continue its 2024 fall season with participation in the Notre Dame Mini Duals, starting Friday. Two student-athletes from the team, Tyler Bowers and Jeremy Zhang, will compete in this event held at Notre Dame's campus in South Bend, Indiana, from November 1-3.
Tyler Bowers, a redshirt sophomore, and Jeremy Zhang, a sophomore, are returning to action for the first time since their participation in the ITA Midwest Regional from October 10-14 in East Lansing, Michigan. During that competition, each secured one singles victory. Notably, Bowers reached the doubles main draw final alongside Zach Viiala.
Bowers has achieved a 4-1 record in singles play this fall. His only loss was against a player ranked among the top 15 nationally. He began his season with three consecutive singles victories and has maintained a five-match winning streak in doubles.
Jeremy Zhang holds a 3-3 singles record across two tournament appearances this fall. He started strong with two wins at the Harvard Chowderfest and has one doubles win with Bowers this season.
Both athletes will participate in singles matches as well as pair up for doubles play during the tournament. They will face competitors from various universities including DePaul, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame itself, Ohio State, Western Michigan, and Wisconsin.
