Illini women’s golf finishes first round in Wilmington at Landfall Tradition

Fighting Illini women's golf team concluded the first round of the Landfall Tradition in 13th place with a team score of 296 (+8) at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.

Yurang Li led the Illini by shooting a 1-under 71. Her round included six birdies and was marked by resilience after a triple-bogey on the third hole. Li responded with four consecutive birdies to complete the front nine at even par and added two more birdies on the back nine. She finished tied for 13th and also shared the lowest scoring average on par 5s (4.25, -3).

Brielle Mapanao is tied for 34th following her opening round of 73 (+1). Mapanao started strong with a front nine score of 35 (-1) but recorded a back nine score of 38 (+2), totaling three birdies for the day.

Victoria Zheng stands tied for 45th after carding a round of 74 (+2). Zheng's performance was steady throughout, highlighted by 14 pars, including an impressive streak of 13 straight to start her day.

Lexanne Halama ended her round tied for 74th with a score of 78 (+6), while Brielle Burns sits in a tie for 94th after shooting an opening round of 89 (+17).

Duke and North Carolina are currently leading the team standings at nine under par (279), with Lottie Woad from Florida State topping the individual leaderboard at seven under par (65).

The Fighting Illini will resume play tomorrow morning, with second-round tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT.
