The University of Illinois men's golf team, ranked 12th in the NCAA men's golf team ranking and 13th in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll, is set to conclude its fall schedule at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational. The event will take place at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Alabama, from October 26-27.
The Illini recently secured a second-place finish at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational in Saucier, Mississippi. They will compete over three rounds this weekend on a course designed by former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate. The Steelwood Golf Course was recognized by GolfWeek as "One of the Top Five Private Golf Courses in Alabama" in 2019.
The tournament format includes 54 holes played over two days, with 36 holes scheduled for Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. CT and the final round on Sunday beginning at 7:40 a.m. CT.
Fourteen programs are participating, including eight ranked within the top 80 of the NCAA men's golf team ranking. Illinois will face teams such as No. 62 Clemson and host South Alabama among others.
Illinois' lineup features Jackson Buchanan, Max Herendeen, Trey Marrion, Ethan Wilson, Ryan Voois, and individual competitor Jake Birdwell. This marks their first appearance at this particular invitational.

Looking ahead to early 2025, Illinois plans to participate in the Tinervin Cup exhibition followed by officially opening their spring schedule at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai'i from February 13-15.
