Illinois women's golf team completed the first round of the Big Ten Championships tied for 10th place, recording a team total of 301 (+13). Isabel Sy, who was recognized as a Big Ten All-Tournament Team honoree last year, ended the day tied for fourth with a score of 2-under (70). Sy achieved four birdies on the front nine, including three consecutive birdies on holes 16, 17, and 18. She recorded six birdies overall on the opening day, which was the second-highest in the field. The San Gabriel, California native also had the lowest average score on par-3 holes at 2.00 (-4).
Lexanne Halama is currently tied for 16th after her round of 73 (+1), having gone 1-over (37) on the front nine and even-par (36) on the back nine with three birdies.
Yurang Li is tied for 60th following an opening round of 78 (+8), while Anna Ritter concluded her day tied for 71st with a score of 80 (+8).
Erica Lee stands tied for 76th after posting an initial round of 82 (+10), and Sophia Sulkar is tied for 80th following her round of 84 (+12).
Michigan State leads in team standings at 9-under (279), and Northwestern's Lauryn Nguyen holds the individual lead at 5-under (67).
The Fighting Illini will continue their participation tomorrow with second-round tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. CT.
