Sy stays close to lead after second round at Big Ten Championships

Illinois women's golf team concluded the second round of the Big Ten Championships tied for 11th place, posting a team total of 297 (+9). The tournament is taking place in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

Isabel Sy, a senior on the team, delivered a consistent performance with her second consecutive round of 2-under (70), positioning herself in fifth place. She remains in contention for individual medalist honors as she enters Sunday's final round at 4-under overall, just two strokes behind the leader. Starting from hole No. 10, Sy played a bogey-free back nine at 2-under (34) and an even-par front nine (36), accumulating four birdies throughout her round. Her total of 10 birdies across 36 holes ranks her second among all competitors. Additionally, Sy is tied for the lowest par-3 scoring average at 2.50 (-4).

Yurang Li improved her standing significantly by shooting a round of 71 (-1), moving up to tie for 36th place after climbing 24 spots on the leaderboard with two birdies and only one bogey.

Lexanne Halama finished the day tied for 62nd following an 81 (+9). Meanwhile, Anna Ritter and Erica Lee are both tied for 78th after carding rounds of 80 and 78 respectively. Sophia Sulkar sits tied for 80th after recording a second-round score of 78 (+6).

Michigan State leads the team standings with a score of 14-under (562), while Katie Lu from Michigan State holds the individual lead at six-under (138).

The Fighting Illini will return to action tomorrow morning, with third and final round tee times starting at 7:00 a.m. CT.
