The Illinois women's golf team is positioned in second place after the first day of the Briar's Creek Invitational, following a 36-hole team total of 572 (-4). The event took place in Johns Island, South Carolina. Illinois was one of only two teams to finish under par and trails Michigan State by six strokes as they head into Tuesday's final round.
Isabel Sy stands out for Illinois, currently in second place at 7-under overall. She is aiming for her second consecutive tournament victory and sixth straight Top 5 finish. Sy recorded an impressive 11 birdies over the day, finishing with rounds of 67 (-5) and 70 (-2).
Lexanne Halama is tied for seventh place after shooting rounds of 73 (+1) and a season-low 69 (-3). Halama did not bogey any holes during her second round and has gone bogey-free for 22 consecutive holes.
Yurang Li is tied for 22nd in her third career event, with scores of 71 (-1) and 75 (+3). Anna Ritter follows closely, tied for 27th after posting rounds of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2). Erica Lee is tied for 45th with scores of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3), while Sophia Sulkar, competing individually, is tied for 90th after rounds of 80 (+8) and 78 (+6).
Michigan State leads the competition at a score of 10-under (566), with Katie Lu from Michigan State leading individually at eight-under.
The final round will commence with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
