The University of Illinois women's tennis team secured a victory against Northwestern, marking their fourth consecutive win over the Wildcats. The match, held at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, ended with a 5-1 score in favor of Illinois. This win brings the team's home record to 8-1.

Head coach Evan Clark expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance: "This was one of those moments where you are just really happy for your team," he said. He acknowledged the hard work and dedication of his players, noting that this success in a significant match setting is rewarding for them. Clark added, "It hasn't been easy for the squad this year, but they have really continued to grow and find ways to win no matter the circumstances."

With this victory, Illinois improves its season record to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, Northwestern's record now stands at 13-5 overall and also 4-1 in Big Ten play following the loss.

Northwestern initially took an early lead by winning two out of three doubles matches. However, Illinois dominated singles play starting with Kasia Treiber's straight-set win at No. 4 singles. Kida Ferrari followed with a three-set victory at No. 5 singles.

Josie Frazier contributed another point for Illinois by winning her match at No. 3 singles after dropping the first set. Alice Xu secured her win at No. 6 singles in a close contest that included a tiebreaker finish.

McKenna Schaefbauer clinched her match at No. 2 singles against Justine Leong from Northwestern, further solidifying Illinois' lead.

The Illini will face Minnesota next on April 5 before traveling to Wisconsin on April 7.
