Georgia Tech defeats Illinois women's tennis team in NCAA first round

In their 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Illinois women's tennis team was defeated by No. 24 Georgia Tech with a score of 4-1. The match took place at the Texas Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.

The Fighting Illini concluded their season with a record of 17-10, while Georgia Tech improved to 14-9. This loss marks Illinois' third defeat against the Yellow Jackets in their history.

Illinois' participation in the 2024 NCAA Team Tournament represents consecutive bids for the second time under Coach Clark and is the seventh occurrence in program history. It is also the fourth time they have reached this stage with Clark as coach.

The team has now participated in 15 NCAA Tournaments and holds a combined record of 4-15 in these events.

Georgia Tech secured an early lead by winning two doubles matches, earning them the opening point despite Illinois initially leading on two courts. The doubles teams from Georgia Tech ranked No. 1 and No. 2 emerged victorious over Illinois pairs, while Josie Frazier and Kida Ferrari's match at No. 3 went unfinished.

In singles play, Georgia Tech extended their lead to 3-0 after victories at No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Kida Ferrari managed to secure a win for Illinois at No. 6 singles with scores of 6-0, 6-4, bringing her overall record to 13-6 for the season.

However, Georgia Tech clinched the match with a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, concluding with a final score of 4-1.
