Junior Kasia Treiber has been recognized as the Big Ten Women's Tennis Player of the Week following her performance over the weekend. The announcement was made by the conference office on Wednesday.
Treiber achieved a 2-0 record at No. 3 singles, contributing to the Fighting Illini's victories against Brown and Marshall at Atkins Tennis Center. Her first win came in straight sets against Gabby Soliman from Brown, with scores of 6-0, 6-4. She secured her second victory against Doroteja Joksovic from Marshall with a scoreline of 6-4, 7-5.
Treiber is an accountancy major at Illinois and her efforts have helped propel the Orange and Blue into the ITA rankings at No. 24, marking their highest position since 2019.
This accolade marks Treiber's first time receiving Big Ten Player of the Week honors. She is also the first player from Illinois to receive this recognition in the current season. The last Illini player to earn such honors was Kate Duong on April 19, 2022.
Currently on a four-match winning streak, Treiber and her team, ranked No. 24 with a record of 7-2, are set to compete next at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Alabama on Friday.
