With the regular season nearing its end, the Fighting Illini women's tennis team will host Indiana and Purdue for Senior Weekend at the Atkins Tennis Center. The matches are scheduled for Friday against Indiana at 3 p.m. CT and Sunday against Purdue at noon.
Indiana comes into the weekend with a 6-16 overall record and an 0-8 mark in conference play. The Hoosiers have not won any of their seven road matches this season and are on a nine-match losing streak.
Purdue, ranked No. 58, has an 11-7 overall record and a balanced 4-4 in Big Ten action. They have performed well on the road with a 4-2 record and will start their weekend against Northwestern on Friday.
The No. 35 Illinois team holds a 13-7 record, including a strong 5-2 in Big Ten play and an impressive 9-1 home record.
Last weekend, Illinois had mixed results with a home victory over Minnesota followed by a loss to No. 30 Wisconsin on the road. Against Minnesota, Illinois secured their fifth sweep of the season with McKenna Schaefbauer, Megan Heuser, and Kasia Treiber winning singles matches after taking the doubles point. At Wisconsin, despite winning the doubles point and Kida Ferrari's victory at No. 5 singles, Illinois fell short with a final score of 4-2.
Historically, Illinois trails Indiana in their all-time series but leads against Purdue. Under head coach Evan Clark, Illinois is currently ahead in both matchups against these teams.
Coach Evan Clark is in his ninth year leading Illinois women's tennis with an overall dual record of 127-82 (.608) and has guided them to three NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure.
Following this weekend's games, Illinois will conclude its regular season with away matches against Penn State and Ohio State next week.
