Sophomore McKenna Schaefbauer leads Fighting Illini into Big Ten quarterfinals

McKenna Schaefbauer, a sophomore at the University of Illinois, showcased her skills at the Big Ten Women's Tennis Championship held at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Schaefbauer played a pivotal role in leading the Fighting Illini to the quarterfinals for the 16th time since 2008.

In the first round against Rutgers, Schaefbauer secured Illinois' victory with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. This match marked her first time clinching a victory for her team and improved her overall record to 17-9, including a 14-6 performance in dual matches.

During Friday's quarterfinals against Wisconsin, Schaefbauer teamed up with doubles partner Kasia Treiber to achieve a decisive 6-1 win. This success brought their overall record to 10-2 and an impressive 8-2 in dual matches at No. 3 doubles.

Schaefbauer is majoring in political science and maintains a GPA of 3.92.
