The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams concluded their participation in the 64th annual Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday, April 20, in Walnut, California. The event saw notable performances from several athletes.
Redshirt junior Rose Yeboah achieved a significant milestone by winning the high jump elite section with a leap of 1.87 meters (6-1 1/2), marking the second-highest jump in the program's history. Junior Bara Sajdokova also cleared the same height on her first attempt, sharing the victory with Yeboah.
In relay events, the women's 4x100m team consisting of freshmen Asia Thomas and Sophia Beckmon, along with juniors Tacoria Humphrey and Jessica McDowell, secured sixth place in the elite section. They recorded a time of 43.78 seconds, which is just shy of the program record set in 1996.
Junior Tori Thomas earned third place in the pole vault elite section by clearing a height of 4.30 meters (14-1 1/4). Her teammate, sophomore Mia Morello, finished fifth with a vault of 4.15 meters (13-7 1/4).
Freshman Elizabeth Ndudi claimed third place in the long jump elite final with a mark of 6.39 meters (20-11 3/4). In another high jump event, junior Kam Garrett also placed third by clearing 2.13 meters (6-11 3/4). Senior Tyler Sudduth secured third place in shot put with a throw measuring 19.33 meters (63-5).
Three more Illini athletes finished fifth in their respective events: graduate student Amber Simpson threw for a distance of 65.43 meters (214-8) in hammer throw; freshman Cody Johnston vaulted to a height of 5.52 meters (18-1 1/4) in pole vault; and senior Robert Williams completed his race in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.07 seconds.
The Illinois track and field teams will next compete at the Drake Relays from April 25 to April 27.
