The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams are gearing up for the Big Ten Indoor Championships, set to take place in Geneva, Ohio, from February 23-24. The women's team enters the competition ranked 17th by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the men's team holds a 23rd place ranking.

Under the guidance of Petros Kyprianou, now in his second year as director of track, field, and cross country, both teams have seen significant developments. Kyprianou's efforts on the recruiting front were highlighted by securing Sophia Beckmon, regarded as a top national recruit.

The offseason saw numerous new additions through recruitment and transfers who quickly made their mark. Freshman Sophia Beckmon made an immediate impact by entering Illinois' top-10 list for the 60m dash with a time of 7.38 seconds. Her primary event is long jump where she holds a school record at 6.49 meters (21-3 1/2).

The women's long jump team has been recognized as number one in the nation by USTFCCCA. Junior Tacoria Humphrey ranks second within Illinois with a jump of 6.42 meters (21-0 3/4), followed closely by freshman Elizabeth Ndudi at third with 6.41 meters (21-0 1/2), and junior Darja Sopova at fifth with 6.28 meters (20-7 1/4).

Darja Sopova also excels in triple jump holding another school record at 13.56 meters (44-6). On the men's side, junior Daniel Mboyo leads in long jump reaching eighth in school history with a leap of 7.62 meters (25-0).

Junior Tori Thomas is closing in on breaking Illinois' pole vault record after achieving a height of 4.42 meters (14-6) this season which stands as second best for Illinois records and set a new UI Armory facility record.

In high jump events, freshman Rose Yeboah shattered a longstanding school record with her leap measuring at 1.88 meters (6-2). Meanwhile junior Bara Sajdokova tied an earlier school mark hitting heights of up to 1.87 meters (6–1½). Juniors Kam Garrett and Jackson Marseille achieved marks placing them among top performers historically for Illinois.

Senior Tyler Sudduth surpassed previous weight throw records reaching distances over 23 meters while senior Aiden Ouimet broke into heptathlon scoring leading nationally during his peak performance period.
