The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams concluded their participation in the Drake Relays on Saturday, April 27. Graduate student Amber Simpson secured a win in the champion division hammer throw with a distance of 66.29 meters.
In the collegiate division hammer throw competition, freshman Javaris Ambrose achieved fourth place with a throw of 61.08 meters, marking the sixth-best in school history. This performance improved his personal best by over a meter and surpassed his teammate, senior Tyler Sudduth, who held the previous sixth-best record with a distance of 60.90 meters for two weeks.
Sophomore Olivia Campbell finished eighth in the women's hammer throw collegiate division with her best attempt reaching 56.38 meters.
The Illinois track and field teams are set to conclude their outdoor regular season at home on May 4 during the Fighting Illini Tune-Up event.
Amber Simpson's victory was highlighted by her throw measuring 66.29 meters in the champion division hammer throw. Javaris Ambrose placed fourth in his category with a mark of 61.08 meters, contributing to program history as its sixth-best performance. Meanwhile, Olivia Campbell's effort earned her an eighth-place finish with a throw of 56.38 meters.
