The Illinois women's field team participated in the first day of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Junior Tori Thomas secured second place in the pole vault champion division by matching her season-best mark of 4.37 meters (14-4). This performance is the program's second-best outdoor vault, a feat she initially achieved at the Gary Wieneke Memorial on April 13.
Thomas has consistently placed in the top three for pole vault events this season, earning two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze. Sophomore Mia Morello finished eighth in the champion division with a vault of 4.07 meters (13-4 1/4), while junior Kelsey Rothas took fifth place in the collegiate division with a clearance of 3.92 meters (12-10 1/4).
The competition continues tomorrow with events including men's and women's hammer throw and men's pole vault.
"Thomas' season-best 4.37m is the program's second-best outdoor vault too which she first cleared at the second annual Gary Wieneke Memorial two weeks ago on April 13."
This marks another successful outing for Thomas as she continues to build on her impressive record this season.
