The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams participated in the 64th annual Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, April 19, 2024, in Walnut, California. Junior Halle Hill made a significant improvement in her performance by clocking a time of 4:15.86 in the 1500m race, which placed her third on the school's leaderboard for this event. This was an improvement of over five seconds from her previous best time of 4:20.99, earning her fifth place in the elite section.
Senior Jack Roberts also excelled by placing fourth in the 5000m elite section with a time of 13:55.89, marking a personal best improvement of nearly 22 seconds from his previous record of 14:17.44. In another highlight, junior Sam Poglitsch secured first place in the collegiate section of the 1500m with a time of 4:26.47.
In field events, junior Jackson Marseille achieved second place in collegiate section A of the high jump with a leap measuring 2.12 meters (6-11½). His teammate CJ Shoaf cleared a height of 2.02 meters (6-7½), finishing eighth in the same event.
Senior Tyle Sudduth threw a distance of 54.54 meters (178-11) to claim eighth place in discus throw. Freshman Jackson Gilbert narrowly missed setting a new personal best by just .02 seconds as he finished tenth in the 400m with a time of 47.12 seconds. Fellow freshman Asia Thomas set a new personal best by completing the 100m sprint in 11.73 seconds, securing her position at twenty-second place.
The Orange and Blue track and field teams are scheduled to conclude their participation at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday, April 20, with track events starting at 2:15 p.m., followed by field events at 3:30 p.m.
