Illinois soccer team faced a setback against Rutgers, losing 2-1 at Yurcak Field. The match saw Illinois leveling the score with Sarah Foley's 10th goal of the season in the 26th minute after Rutgers initially took the lead. However, a second goal from Rutgers in the 32nd minute sealed their victory.

In the opening minutes, Illinois goalkeeper Izzy Lee made a significant save, tipping a shot onto the crossbar to prevent an early goal by Rutgers. Freshman Lauren Seppi had opportunities to score in both the 12th and 18th minutes but was unable to get past the Scarlet Knights' keeper.

Rutgers capitalized on a turnover in Illinois' defensive third to take the lead in the 23rd minute. Just moments later, Lia Howard won a free kick near Rutgers' penalty area. Foley successfully converted this set piece into a goal, curling her shot into the top-right corner and equalizing for Illinois.

Despite Illinois' efforts to find another equalizer in the second half, including four shots within fifteen minutes and several close attempts by Howard and Angie Galo, they were unable to break through Rutgers' defense again. The Illini defense held strong during this period, allowing only three shots from Rutgers.

The Fighting Illini will play their final game of the season against Northwestern at Demirjian Park on October 27 at 1 p.m. CT.
