The Fighting Illini men's golf team, ranked 15th in the NCAA men's golf team rankings and 13th in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll, is set to compete at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational. The event will take place from October 19-21 at the Fallen Oak Course located within Beau Rivage Resort in Saucier, Mississippi.
The tournament will be held on a par-72 course spanning 7,487 yards. Designed by Tom Fazio, Fallen Oak is recognized as Mississippi's top course and features an 18-hole championship layout nestled in De Soto National Forest.
This three-day tournament will consist of 54 holes. Rounds one and two are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. CT. The final round on Monday will begin at 8 a.m. CT.
A total of 13 programs are participating, including ten teams ranked within the top 65 of the NCAA men's golf rankings. Illinois will face strong competition from five SEC teams ranked inside the top 30: Ole Miss (2nd), LSU (5th), Mississippi State (22nd), South Carolina (23rd), and Georgia (29th). Additional contenders include UNLV (32nd) and Kansas (36th). Other Big Ten participants include Purdue (48th), Iowa (61st), and Wisconsin (108th). Southern Miss and UTSA complete the lineup.
Representing Illinois are Jackson Buchanan, Max Herendeen, Trey Marrion, Ethan Wilson, Ryan Voois, with Jake Birdwell competing individually. This marks Illinois' first appearance at this invitational.
Live scoring can be followed via Golfstat with daily recaps available on FightingIllini.com. After this event, Illinois will head to Alabama for their final fall schedule event at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational hosted by South Alabama on October 26-27.
