Illinois baseball team faced a setback in their series finale against Maryland, losing 11-7 at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. The Illini, now with a record of 25-16 and 11-4 in the conference, were led by Vytas Valincius who had an impressive performance. Valincius went 2-for-4 with a run, double, home run, and five RBI. Connor Milton also contributed with a home run, going 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

The game began with Maryland scoring two runs in the first inning. Illinois responded in the second inning when Coltin Quagliano singled to bring Ryan Moerman home. However, Maryland continued to build their lead by scoring one more run in the second and four runs in the third inning.

Illinois attempted a comeback starting in the fourth inning as Valincius hit a solo home run. The Illini added two more runs in the fifth inning thanks to Milton's solo home run and Valincius' sacrifice fly. In the eighth inning, Valincius further narrowed the gap with a three-run double making it 8-7.

Despite these efforts, Maryland scored three more times in the bottom of the eighth inning, leading to an eventual 11-7 victory over Illinois. The Illini left ten runners on base during this game.

Several players extended their personal streaks: Coltin Quagliano extended his hitting streak to 19 games while Camden Janik's hitting streak reached seven games. Cal Hejza has now reached base safely for 25 consecutive games.

The Fighting Illini drew six walks from Maryland pitchers but ultimately could not capitalize enough on these opportunities.
