Fighting Illini men's tennis players Hunter Heck and Karlis Ozolins have advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championship. The pair achieved this by winning a straight-set match on Tuesday afternoon at Oklahoma State's campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Ranked No. 12, Heck and Ozolins faced off against Notre Dame's No. 26-ranked duo, Sebastian Dominko and Jean-Marc Malkowski. They secured their victory with scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
The match began with Heck and Ozolins trailing but they managed to keep it close. After being down 4-3 in the first set, they won three consecutive games to take the set at 6-4.
In the second set, Heck and Ozolins gained an early lead of 2-0 and maintained their momentum to finish the set at 6-3, thus clinching the match.
Their next opponents will be Bozo Barun and Jared Horwood from Arkansas, who are ranked No. 30. The match is scheduled for Wednesday.
