The University of Illinois men's golf program will be prominently featured at the 124th U.S. Open. Alumni Thomas Detry and Brian Campbell, along with rising senior Jackson Buchanan, are set to compete at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina this week.

Detry, ranked 55th in the world, is making his third appearance at the U.S. Open. He was exempt from qualifying due to his top-60 ranking as of May 20. His previous performances include a T49 finish at Winged Foot in 2020 and a missed cut at Torrey Pines in 2021. Recently, he achieved a T4 finish at the PGA Championship.

Campbell secured his spot by finishing T2 at Duke University Golf Club on June 3 during final qualifying. This marks his third U.S. Open appearance after debuting as a junior in 2014, where he missed the cut but returned to finish T27 as low amateur at Chambers Bay.

Buchanan will make his major debut after tying for medalist honors at his final qualifier on June 3 in Alpharetta, Georgia. He is one of 16 amateurs competing and the first current Illini to participate since Adrien Dumont de Chassart in 2022.

This tournament is one of three upcoming events for Buchanan against professional players. He has earned exemptions into the Korn Ferry Tour's Memorial Health Championship and the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic.

In other golf news, Dylan Meyer is participating in this week's Wichita Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. This event marks Meyer's fifth tour appearance this season.
