Edmond Ruth, a redshirt junior, has become an All-American at 174 pounds after competing in the NCAA Championships. He is the first from his program to achieve this distinction at 174 pounds since Zac Brunson in 2017. Ruth's journey included a challenging quarterfinal match against Ohio State's Rocco Welsh, who defeated him in sudden victory 4-1. This result reversed their previous encounter at the Big Ten Championships where Ruth had won.
Ruth then faced Iowa State's MJ Gaitan in the blood round. Despite trailing initially, Ruth managed to secure a decision win with an 8-6 score. His next match was against Cade DeVos from South Dakota State. Although he staged a comeback in the third period, Ruth lost by decision 5-3 due to DeVos securing a riding time point.
Ruth will compete for seventh place against Army's Benjamin Pasiuk on March 23 as part of the final day of the NCAA Championships.
In other results, Danny Pucino and Chris Moore were both eliminated from their respective weight classes after losing their matches.
