Illinois senior Hunter Heck has been named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week following his performances against top-ranked Ohio State and then-seventh-ranked Arizona during the week of March 6-10.
Heck played a key role for Illinois in home matches at the Atkins Tennis Center, where he managed top-flight singles duties. Ranked 39th in singles by the ITA, Heck secured a victory over eighth-ranked Colton Smith of Arizona in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, on Sunday.
In doubles competition, Heck partnered with Karlis Ozolins to achieve wins against both Ohio State and Arizona. The duo won 12 out of 13 games and is ranked third nationally by the ITA.
This recognition marks Heck's third career Big Ten weekly award. He was previously honored twice during the 2022 season and was a 2023 All-Big Ten First-Team selection.
The list of Illinois' Big Ten Men's Tennis Player of the Week winners for 2024 includes Karlis Ozolins on January 10 and Hunter Heck on March 13.
