The Fighting Illini men's golf team, ranked 18th nationally in the NCAA Collegiate Golf team rankings and 17th in the GCAA Coaches Top-25 poll, is set to compete at the Scioto Country Club for the 2024 Big Ten Men's Golf Championship. The tournament will take place from April 26-28 in Columbus, Ohio.
Illinois aims to secure its ninth consecutive conference title and its 14th out of the last 15 league championships since the 2008-09 season. The program has won a total of 21 Big Ten crowns overall.
The championship is hosted at Scioto Country Club, a historic venue designed by Donald Ross. It has hosted several major championships including the U.S. Open and Ryder Cup. Recently renovated by Andrew Green in 2021, it continues to challenge top golfers with its strategic layout.
The tournament format consists of a three-day, 54-hole event with one round played each day. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. ET on Friday and Saturday, while Sunday's final round starts at 8 a.m. ET followed by an awards ceremony.
Competing teams include all 14 Big Ten men's golf programs with Illinois being one of five top-50 ranked teams alongside Purdue (28), Ohio State (37), Northwestern (43), and Indiana (45).
Illinois' lineup features Ryan Voois as No.1, followed by Max Herendeen, Jackson Buchanan, Ethan Wilson, Piercen Hunt, and alternate Timmy Crawford.
"The Illini have competed for the league title every year except for 1929," reflecting their long-standing presence in the championship history which dates back to their first participation in this event.
Under head coach Mike Small's leadership since the late 2000s, Illinois has dominated with multiple titles and individual honors over recent years.
