Freshman Max Herendeen leads Illini to victory at NCAA Stanford Regional

Max Herendeen, a freshman from the University of Illinois' men's golf team, led his team to victory at the NCAA Stanford Regional held at Stanford Golf Club. Herendeen's performance marked his first collegiate career win and made him the fifth Illini golfer to achieve an NCAA Regional Medalist honor. He was also the only freshman in the nation to earn this distinction at the 2024 NCAA Regionals.

Herendeen set new records for Illinois with a 54-hole score of 197 (-13) and a single-round score of 63 (-7) during an NCAA Regional. The third-seeded Fighting Illini team finished with a score of 804 (-36), securing an eight-stroke lead over top-seeded Florida State and finishing well ahead of sixth place. This performance earned them a spot in the upcoming 2024 NCAA Championship.

Max Herendeen is pursuing General Studies with a GPA of 3.51 and hails from Bellevue, Washington.
