Fighting Illini men's tennis team is set to continue its homestand with matches against Purdue and Indiana. The contests are scheduled for April 19 at 6 p.m. CT against Purdue and April 21 at 12 p.m. CT against Indiana, marking Senior Day at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois.
Illinois has a historical advantage over Purdue, holding a record of 106-11-1 since their first match on May 13, 1905, when Illinois secured a decisive 6-0 victory. Head coach Brad Dancer has maintained this dominance with only one loss to Purdue, a narrow 4-3 defeat on March 1, 2017.
Against Indiana, the Illini have a slightly more competitive history with a record of 52-44. Their first encounter was in 1932 when Illinois triumphed over Indiana with a score of 5-1.
Purdue's recent performance includes a win against Wisconsin (4-2) but a loss to Nebraska (5-1). Similarly, Indiana recently lost to Nebraska (5-2) but managed a victory over Wisconsin (5-2). Before facing Illinois, Indiana will compete against Northwestern on April 19 in Evanston.
Indiana features Sam Landau as their No. 90 ranked singles player in the ITA Rankings and boasts the doubles pair of Michael Andre and Ilya Tiraspolsky ranked at No. 64.
