Graduate student Mia Takekawa shared the bars title in Illinois' third-place finish at the Alabama Quad Meet. Competing against No. 9 Alabama, No. 17 Minnesota, and Talladega College, the Illini scored 196.075 points.
Alabama secured first place with a score of 198.000, while Minnesota followed with 197.400 points. Talladega College finished with a score of 191.000.
"The team handled the environment extremely well," said head coach Nadalie Walsh. "I am very proud of their confidence in their routines. They still have small improvements to make to be the best team they can be."
Takekawa achieved a score of 9.950 on bars, sharing the event win with Alabama's Luisa Blanco.
Arielle Ward broke her career-high on vault with a score of 9.925, placing second behind Blanco's perfect score of 10.0.
In the beam event, Mia Townes scored 9.825, Amelia Knight achieved 9.850, and Takekawa led Illinois with a score of 9.900.
On floor exercise, Townes, Abby Mueller, and Alea Byrne each scored 9.850, while Ward earned a score of 9.725.
Ward's career-high performance on vault was complemented by Mueller's score of 9.775 and Olivia Coppola's score of 9.750.
In the bars category, Kaitlyn Ewald received a notable score of 9.825, while Mueller and Lyden Saltness both scored 9.800.
Illinois will host Senior Night at Huff Hall on March 17 at 2 p.m., competing against No.19 Arizona, No.13 Missouri, and SEMO.
