Illinois men's tennis team secured a 4-0 victory over Indiana on Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Illinois. This win marked the end of their regular season, finishing with a 16-8 overall record and a 6-3 record in the Big Ten.
Head coach Brad Dancer expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, especially highlighting senior Alex Petrov's contribution. "I'm super happy for the seniors to get that victory today," Dancer said. "Especially Alex Petrov playing at the one hole. He had it locked in today."
In doubles play, Alex Petrov and Tyler Bowers defeated Facundo Yunis and Luc Boulier with a score of 6-4. The Illini secured the doubles point when Lucas Horve and Oliver Okonkwo, ranked No. 35, won against Jagger Saylor and Ilya Tiraspolsky, 7-5.
Petrov continued his strong performance in singles by defeating Yunis 6-3, 6-3, improving his personal record to 12-5 overall and 5-2 in Big Ten matches. Mathis Debru added another point for Illinois by overcoming Deacon Thomas with scores of 6-0, 7-6 (3). Tyler Bowers clinched the match by beating Tiraspolsky in three sets: 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Looking ahead, Illinois has earned the No.-4 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament. They are set to face No.-5 seed Nebraska on Friday at Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Illinois.
