Fighting Illini junior Jackson Buchanan has been recognized as the Big Ten Golfer of the Week. This announcement was made by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday afternoon, following Buchanan's performance at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Oregon.
Buchanan led Illinois to a team victory at the 34th Duck Invitational held at Eugene Country Club. He secured his third collegiate win and second this season by leading the tournament in Par-4 (3.94) and Par-5 (4.22) scoring categories. Buchanan recorded two of the lowest individual rounds with consecutive scores of 67 (-4) in Rounds 2 and 3.
After starting with a 5-over through his first 14 holes, Buchanan finished strong by shooting 11-under during his final 40 holes, culminating in a score of 207 (-6). This effort resulted in a three-stroke victory for him. Overall, he played 46 out of 54 holes at par or better, achieving 12 birdies and one eagle.
This recognition marks Buchanan's fourth career Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor, his second for this season, and is also the fourth time an Illinois golfer has received this accolade during the 2023-24 season.
Illinois' winners for Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week in the current season include Max Herendeen on September 14, Jackson Buchanan on October 12 and March 27, and Timmy Crawford on October 18.
