Four members of the University of Illinois men's golf team have been honored by the Big Ten Conference with postseason awards. Max Herendeen was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and, along with junior Jackson Buchanan, was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten first team. Sophomore Ryan Voois received second-team All-Big Ten honors, while fifth-year senior Timmy Crawford was recognized with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Herendeen is now the eighth Illini golfer to receive Freshman of the Year honors. The Bellevue, Washington native ranks 56th in NCAA Division I men's golf rankings and holds a season stroke average of 71.28, which could set a new freshman record for Illinois. He has achieved ten top-20 finishes in his first 11 collegiate events.
Buchanan, from Dacula, Georgia, earned his second consecutive All-Big Ten first team selection and is ranked 28th nationally. His season stroke average stands at 70.65. Buchanan secured two individual tournament victories this season and led Illinois in four tournaments.
Voois has had a breakout sophomore year with a career-best stroke average of 71.94 and recorded his first collegiate victory at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate event earlier this month.
Crawford joined Illinois for one season after transferring from Loyola University Chicago and posted three top-10 finishes this year.
The Fighting Illini are preparing for their upcoming participation in an NCAA regional tournament scheduled for May 13-15 at six different sites across the United States.
