After two rounds of qualifying matches, the singles main draw at the Neitzel Family Open is finalized. Seven current and former Illinois student-athletes are set to compete, with the first round scheduled for Wednesday at Atkins Tennis Center.
Gabrielius Guzauskas and Lucas Horve both advanced through qualifying rounds. Guzauskas defeated Ryan Fishback 7-5, 6-2 in the initial round before securing his place in the main draw with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over teammate Tyler Bowers. He will face No. 3-seeded Cannon Kingsley on Court 5 N.
Horve earned his spot by defeating Corey Gaal 7-5, 6-4 and Benjamin Thomas George 6-4, 6-1. His opponent on Wednesday will be Noah Schachter on Court 5 N.
Kenta Miyoshi starts his tournament against James Tracy on Court 1 at 10 a.m., followed by Karlis Ozolins facing No. 4-seeded Andre Ilagan once Miyoshi's match concludes.
Former teammates Alex Petrov and Zeke Clark will meet in their singles match on Court 1, while William Mroz takes on Dan Martin later in the day.
In doubles play, Guzauskas and Mroz defeated former Illini players Alex Brown and Zeke Clark in straight sets. Doubles matches resume Thursday.
