The NCAA Championships are set to take place from March 21-23 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Representing the University of Illinois will be three wrestlers: Edmond Ruth, Danny Pucino, and Chris Moore.
Edmond Ruth, a redshirt junior competing at 174 pounds, is entering his second consecutive NCAA Championships following his victory as a Big Ten champion. Ruth has been a standout performer for Illinois this season, leading in most statistical categories. He boasts a record of 22 wins with only two losses, achieving an impressive win percentage of 91.7%. Both losses were against fellow NCAA qualifiers: Keegan O'Toole from Missouri and Patrick Kennedy from Iowa.
Danny Pucino will compete at 141 pounds after securing eighth place in the Big Ten Championships. This marks Pucino's first qualification for the NCAA Championships. Notably, he leads the team in tech-falls with three and has recorded two falls this season, with his fastest being achieved in just over two minutes.
Chris Moore, a true freshman wrestling at 165 pounds, also qualified for his first NCAA Championships by finishing sixth at the Big Ten Championships. Moore made headlines by defeating Caleb Fish from Michigan State during the competition. Fish is ranked as a top-15 wrestler by InterMat and holds the No. 21 seed at NCAAs.
These three athletes aim to represent their university well on one of collegiate wrestling's biggest stages.
