Four golfers from the University of Illinois have been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in its 2024 Division I PING All-America selections. Freshman Max Herendeen and junior Jackson Buchanan were named to the second and third teams, respectively, while fifth-year senior Tyler Goecke and sophomore Ryan Voois received honorable mentions.
A total of 63 golfers were honored across various categories. Illinois' four honorees placed them second nationally, tied with Arizona State and Virginia, and just behind Vanderbilt's five selections.
Buchanan has achieved All-America status for the second consecutive year after being an honorable mention last season. Meanwhile, Goecke, Herendeen, and Voois have earned their first collegiate All-America honors.
Herendeen stands out as only the fourth Illinois golfer to be recognized as a GCAA PING All-American in his first collegiate season. He is also the first Fighting Illini freshman to make it to the second team or higher. His achievements this season include winning the NCAA Stanford Regional and finishing tied for second in stroke play at the NCAA Championship.
Jackson Buchanan was named Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Year and was a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection. He competed in all 13 stroke play events for Illinois this season, achieving a runner-up finish at the Big Ten Championship among other accolades.
Tyler Goecke transferred from Wright State for his final year of eligibility. In his lone season with Illinois, he posted a stroke average that improved significantly during spring competitions.
Ryan Voois had a breakout sophomore year which included winning his first collegiate tournament at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate. He also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors.
